Ward 7 Councillor Donna Skelly will move a motion at Hamilton City Council on Wednesday to commit funding towards expanding Sackville Hill Seniors Recreation Centre.
Councillor Skelly, and Ward 6 Councillor Tom Jackson, have each committed to contributing $200,000 from their respective Area Rating funds in support of the project. In addition, the Sackville Hill Senior Centre Board of Finance also plans on providing $200,000 from their reserves to fund an expansion.
The Ward 7 Councillor is also asking that staff explore opportunities to obtain further financial assistance from the provincial and federal governments. Councilor Skelly is confident that by establishing $600,000 of support, Sackville will be shovel-ready when other funding opportunities become available.
“Seniors are the fastest growing segment of the population, and they deserve access to the type of unique programing provided at Sackville. By investing in the facility’s expansion, we’re helping to ensure that the City of Hamilton fulfills its obligation to be the best place to raise a child and age successfully,” says Skelly.
Sackville Hill Seniors Centre opened in 1992, and is now used by more than 2,200 members from across the City of Hamilton.7_1_Motion_-_Sackville_
